Obama’s Birth Certificate

A small faction of right-wing knuckleheads have been doggedly investigating Senator Barack Obama’s birth. “Investigating” may be a strong word that may be better characterized as generating rumors and lies. One of my readers was even sucked into this trap.

They say that Obama was born not in Hawaii, but elsewhere. They have no proof but they look at the 1961 birth certificate and say that it is a fake. Their champion is Jerome Corsi, who has been touting this idea on national television.

Thankfully, FactCheck.org has done their homework and looked at Obama’s birth certificate. They have verified the raised the seal. The birth certificate has even been verified by Jerome Corsi’s own publisher, WorldNetDaily. They recently wrote:

However, FactChecker.org says it obtained Obama’s actual birth certificate and that the document was indeed real. The site discredited some of the claims of Internet bloggers, such as that the certificate as viewed in a scanned copy released by Obama’s campaign lacked a raised seal. FactChecker.org also established that many of the alleged flaws in the document noted by bloggers were caused by the scanning of the document.

A separate WND investigation into Obama’s birth certificate utilizing forgery experts also found the document to be authentic. The investigation also revealed methods used by some of the bloggers to determine the document was fake involved forgeries, in that a few bloggers added text and images to the certificate scan that weren’t originally there.     As you know, I commented on the William Ayres -- Barack Obama story a couple days ago. They served together on the board of the Woods Fund of Chicago. If you go to the Woods Fund of Chicago website you don't find any reference to the Annenberg's Factcheck.org. As a matter of fact, factcheck.org is run by the Annenberg foundation which is a part of the Annenberg school of public policy which is associated with the University of Pennsylvania. So unless you have some additional information, I do not believe there is any conflict of interest.

    Even if there was a conflict of interest, in my post, I mentioned that WorldNetDaily had independently confirmed that the birth certificate was authentic.

    Since both McCain's parents were/are US citizens, John McCain is a citizen. Period. End of story.

    I make no editorial comment about Obama's birth cert. except that this had already happened to a major party candidate in February:

    "Mr. McCain’s likely nomination as the Republican candidate for president and the happenstance of his birth in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936 are reviving a musty debate that has surfaced periodically since the founders first set quill to parchment and declared that only a “natural-born citizen” can hold the nation’s highest office."

    Silly argument both ways, but it's happened before.

    FactCheck.org is part of the annendale foundation that both Obama and aires was affiliated with. Conflict of Interest.
    Whay would a 1961 birth certificate indicate race as African? I would think it would be listed asnegro.
    Something is not right.
    Why wouldn't he just release the real birth certificate and put this thing to bed.
