Message From Ted Kennedy

One of the things that I really love about the Daily Kos is every now and then you get a message from some one like Senator Ted Kennedy.

Here’s from the Daily Kos:

One of the few positive results of the Vietnam War is the irresistible momentum it gave Congress to pass legislation lowering the voting age to 18. I was proud to be a part of that movement in Congress more than 30 years ago, and today millions of young people across the country can express their support for Barack Obama in the voting booth.

In a little more than a month, the American people will choose which direction to take our nation over the next four years. This choice will have far-reaching consequences for our economy, our health care, our standing in the world, and our children’s future.

But in order to have a say in this crucial decision, you must be registered to vote. In many states, voter registration deadlines are approaching very quickly. It’s essential that you and everyone you know are registered in time to cast your vote for change.

Don’t miss out on your opportunity to participate in this historic election. Get registered right now at www.voteforchange.com — and be sure to pass the link on to everyone you know who may not be registered.

I’ll have more on this later on tonight.

Cincinnati Bengals Always Stink

Cincinnati-paul-brown-stadium Cincinnati Bengals Always Stink

Despite a massive public subsidy from the taxpayers of Hamilton County, Ohio to build a stadium, the Cincinnati Bengals football team have posted 0 wins and 4 defeats so far in the 2008 NFL season. This is a terrible record.

Not only are the Bengals terrible in 2008, the Bengals have had only one winning season in the past 17 years.

The Bengals are possibly the worst team in all of professional sports. They may also be worse than any college, amateur or pee wee team.

This is the ninth season the Bengals have played in Paul Brown Stadium. This stadium has been paid for with hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars. In these nine seasons, the Bengals have had one winning year. What a lousy team. They’ve let down the public in so many ways. With a free stadium, can’t they put a winning team on the field?

When Paul Brown Stadium was funded, at knife point as the Bengals threatened to move to another city, a lot of fuss was made about how the new stadium would economically benefit Cincinnati and Hamilton County. Has any public official who supported the deal ever checked back to see if the deal has really paid off for the people of Cincinnati and Hamilton County?

What’s Going On: News Roundup

unemployment Whats Going On: News Roundup

Here’s the Friday morning news roundup:

  • Senator Barack Obama is coming to Asheville on Sunday. Details can be found here.
  • Let’s all stand up and give Governor Sarah Palin a round of applause. For some reason, commentators seem to have been under the impression that she might spontaneously combust under the pressure on stage. I suspected she was going to be well rehearsed. She was. Unfortunately, she is tied to bankrupt philosophies: Tax cuts for the rich, the endless war, and “drill baby drill.” Americans, for the most part, have moved on.
  • I’m in the process of filling out the paperwork so that I, too, can apply to the Federal Treasury for a bailout. There seems to be an endless list of banks and other financial institutions with their hands out. For instance, Detroit has their hand out. They just received $25 billion. Did you miss it? It appears, too, that the state of California is trying to jump to the head of the line. However, they are only looking for $7 billion.
  • The New jobs report has just been released. Employers cut 159,000 59 thousand more jobs than forecasters had predicted. The Economic Policy Institute shows a state-by-state trend and it isn’t pretty.
  • A judge in Anchorage, Alaska refused to halt the Legislature’s investigation into Governor Sarah Palin’s in Trooper-gate.
  • It appears that the Senator John McCain campaign is writing off Michigan. They’re pulling out. More polling information can be found here. Could it be that the RNC’s bottomless pit of money is really drying up?

Biden And Palin Discuss Energy

Now energy was supposed to be Governor Sarah Palin’s strong suit. She was supposed to knock this one out of the park! It didn’t happen. She simply has neither the ability nor the knowledge to overwhelm an opponent on any given topic…even this proclaimed strong suit of hers.

Some of the early polling is coming in. Senator Joe Biden not only won the debate but won it handily, particularly in the minds of the ever-important independent voters. In a way, I feel sorry for Palin. She is touting some out-dated ideas. The country has moved on from tax breaks for the rich. So should she.

Biden And Palin Debate

The debate went as I thought it would. Governor Sarah Palin is not a moron, just simply inexperienced with wrong ideas. She was, to her party’s credit, coached very well. She successfully brought every issue back to what she knows…Wasilla and Alaska. She had several canned phrases and buzz-words that she made sure to focus on determinedly. To be fair, Senator Joe Biden did have several canned phrases also.

My favorite thing was seeing Palin with Biden. She looked like a hockey mom from Alaska while Biden looked like a statesman.

Below is Biden explaining more thoroughly what I said a couple of days ago: Supply-side economics doesn’t work. It has never worked. With tax cuts to the middle class, to the people, we all benefit.
