I understand safety concerns of the airlines. But thanks to the media blowing everything out of proportion in the hopes of making a story more dramatic people now live in climate of fear. They are frighten of there own shadow. I am 6′ 4″ tall I was sitting in economy got up during the flight to stretch my legs walk to the back of the plane when the glorified waitress told me to return to my seat now. “Because you know happens to flight attendants they get there throat slit!” I thought she was little psychotic and should be looking for a different job. So I went back to my seat. A few minutes later the captain came out to see if there was any real danger.

This climate of fear is ridiculous! Come on people wake up! There are no terrorist under your bed despite what the media says.

If you want to fear something fear losing your home, fear the banks swindling the taxpayers, fear not having medical coverage. Those are real fears.

100 years ago people where afraid of black people, now its Muslims. I wonder who our boogeyman will be at the end of this century.

I understand the outrage on behalf of the family. I also understand the fear on behalf of the airline. But I would still rather a family (or even an entire religious group) be “offended” than to risk a potential terror attack.
But I am on the fence here.
On one hand, I agree that anyone who would sacrifice a little freedom for security deserve neither, I also believe that human safety may, in certain circumstances, trump self-righteous egos. Must these ideologies necessarily conflict? I don’t know. Maybe there is a happy medium — like the airline apologizing and the family accepting that apology.
P.S.: As an anti-theist, I think the world would be a safer , more pleasant place if people stopped killing each other and taking “offense” at every perceived insult to their spiritual insecurities. (Just look at the current situation in Gaza.. Or Iraq… or Afghanistan….).

How about a Black Muslim? Now, that’s something to fear (tongue in cheek).

    Thanks for your comments.

I am sick of hearing about this distressed family because security protocols were taken by AirTran, TSA and the FBI. I wish I had a block of cheese to go with their whine. I have to travel on business all the time and everytime I have to go through two hours of waiting in line for security procedures, searches, scrutinizing all because several groups decided to take our planes and use them as missles, or pack liquids in their shoes. Woe is me, we’re the ones that are being mistreated for the actions of a few, not one family for all the security crap that has been placed on the free society of America. We can’t even take liquids on board a plane anymore and this Muslim family wonders why others get upset when they discuss the safest place on a plane? Come on, get real, we’ve had to.

I have no problem with security. I have no problem with the family being taken off the plane. I do have a problem with the airline not letting the family on any plane once they were cleared by the FBI.

BTW, this thread is about Rachel Maddow and the dudes that she picked for their 15 minutes of fame. Any thoughts on that?

    Rachel Maddow ?
She is rather pretty, speaks well, she is fairly intelligent, and she looks good..
But does her show do any good ?
I think that the root of this problem is caused by a second rate public education..Luckly, our FBI men seem to be both educated and trained .
