The NFL: Week 8 predictions
Week seven was all it was cracked up to be!! There were some great games and there were some really awful games. I did very well in my predictions, if I may say so myself. This week is all about maintaining dominance.
The Dallas Cowboys versus the Seattle Seahawks. Last week, I predicted the Dallas Cowboys would lose to the Atlanta Falcons. The Cowboys played the most complete game that we’ve seen from them in over 18 months. The defensive line was outstanding. The Cowboy cornerbacks played like they’ve actually played the game before. They weren’t simply playing follow the leader. The defense created turnovers. It was truly a fantastic performance in the clutch. So, the question this week is — which Dallas Cowboys team will we see? Will we see the Dallas Cowboys team that struggled with the lowly Kansas City Chiefs? Or will we see the team that for three quarters completely dominated the Atlanta Falcons? I am hopeful that the real Dallas Cowboys will show up and put away the Seattle Seahawks very early. This could be a blowout.
The Denver Broncos versus the Baltimore Ravens. This is a huge game for the Baltimore Ravens. Their defense has been anything but spectacular. Their secondary has been porous and they have not been generating any significant push from their defensive line giving the opponents playing time to throw the ball. I think the Baltimore Ravens have gotten old and slow. I look for the Denver Broncos to continue their undefeated winning ways.
The Houston Texans versus the Buffalo Bills. The Houston Texans are one of those teams that look like they’re going to start making a move. They’re trying to get up off the mat and play solid football. The Buffalo Bills, on the other hand, are going in the opposite direction. The bills defense is pretty solid but weak against the run. I expect Steve Slayton to set up the play action pass. The Buffalo Bills have absolutely no offense. I look for the Texans to win by more than two touchdowns.
The Cleveland Browns versus the Chicago Bears. Change the channel. This is going to be some ugly football. I look for the Bears to eke out a victory. The Chicago Bears have plenty of problems on both sides of the football. Jake Cutler has to play better.
San Francisco 49ers versus the Indianapolis Colts. The San Francisco 49ers almost have all the pieces in place to be a solid football team. Unfortunately, they won’t have all these pieces by one o’clock this afternoon. Michael Crabtree will make a difference, but only slightly. The Indianapolis Colts are playing great on offense and good on defense. This is the same combination of took them to the Super Bowl couple years ago. Look for the Indianapolis Colts to jump out to a big lead. I don’t think that Peyton Manning will see many snaps in the second half. I wonder if he will be sending text messages on the sidelines..?
The St. Louis Rams versus the Detroit Lions. Why? Can a game be called due to a lack of interest? I have no idea who will win this game. Right now, I’m wondering whether either team could beat the Florida Gators.
The New York Giants versus the Philadelphia Eagles. Currently the city of Philadelphia is mourning the loss of their beloved Phillies. The Phillies had the game against the Yankees for four and half innings. Unfortunately, the Philadelphia Eagles are not going to make them feel any better. The Eagles’ victory, if you can call it that, over the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football was pitiful. The Eagles can’t seem to protect Donovan McNabb. We’ve just learned that Brian Westbrook has been scratched for the game. He is a huge part of their offense. The New York Giants, on the other hand, are coming off of their second loss in two weeks. The dominating defense that the New York Giants once had seems to be a thing of the past. The Giant front seven must create pressure on Donovan McNabb. If they’re able to do that, he will make mistakes. I believe it is important for the New York Giants to make a statement. They need to remind the NFL that they’re still one of the really elite teams. They cannot lose three games in a row. On the other hand, the Philadelphia Eagles do not want to fall further behind in the division. This has the potential of being an absolutely fabulous game. I’m looking for the New York Giants to play ball control and win the game by more than seven points.
Late Sunday games.
(I have no idea what’s going on in the one o’clock games. Some serious craziness.)
San Diego versus the Oakland Raiders. San Diego Chargers have been somewhat confusing this year. Philip Rivers is playing great. I don’t know what happened to the San Diego running game. They’ve been very erratic. The Oakland Raiders have an abysmal offense. Their defense is only slightly better. Because of the long time rivalry, anybody can win this one.
Jacksonville Jaguars versus the Tennessee Titans. Neither one of these teams are playing good football. The Jacksonville Jaguars have shown flashes of mediocrity which is better than being awful. I have no idea what’s going on with the Titans defense. It seems that they’ve lost a few key defensive players. They can’t stop the run and they can’t defend against the pass. I think that this is going to be one of Jeff Fisher’s most challenging years.
Carolina Panthers versus Arizona Cardinals. It should be Arizona all the way but if the Panthers can run the ball and control the clock and the Cardinals could be in trouble. Fortunately, Arizona Cardinals have been played good defense. I look for the Arizona Cardinals to roll over the Carolina Panthers. Look for the Cardinals to snag several interceptions.
Minnesota Vikings versus Green Bay Packers. This is the game of the day. This is the one that everyone’s been talking about all week. Brett Farve returned to Lambeau Field. Aaron Rogers is playing great. Farve gave last week’s game to the Steelers with 2 late turnovers. Look for the Vikings to continue their winning ways against the Packers. This will be a good game.
