Obama at Ft Hood

There is a reason why we elected President Barack Obama. This is a strong speech.

Actually we need someone who knows more than how to give a speech.

    Joe –

I will assume that you said this with the best intentions. :-)

I think that every American would agree that a good speech is nice but you need more. I think we see more of this president. We’ve seen this president stem the tide against an economic crisis which rivaled that of the Great Depression. He is in the midst of passing comprehensive health-care legislation which should help every American. He has stopped torture in the name of the US government. We’re pulling out of the ill advised war of Iraq. He is holding its eighth meeting on Afghanistan and I’m hopeful that we should get a comprehensive policy on how to proceed (extricate ourselves). I suspect that climate change legislation will be introduced in the House and the Senate within the next couple of weeks. I think that this president will have plenty to show on his resume when he reapplies for the job in 2012.

As usual, thanks for your comments.

    Dr Thompson,

Actually Obama has done very little for the economy. His stimulus package consists largely of money as yet unspent.

    What is he waiting for?

The election cycle of 2010, I suspect.

He’s done nothing to address the quotas on banks requiring them to write subprime loans.

He forced banks that didn’t want it and said they didn’t need it, to take money so he could assert control.

His Cash for Cars program helped foreign automakers disproportionately and the 2 American auto builders that were in the worst shape got the crumbs.

The comprehensive health care is a joke.

The House version which passed has a ‘public option’ that will (according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office) likely have HIGHER premiums than private plans.

And it carries CRIMINAL penalties including massive fines and jail, if you don’t buy insurance (isn’t the idea of an ‘option’ that you have choice whether to do it or not?). How is it helping those who can’t afford insurance to develop a high premium plan and threaten them with jail?

As an army mother. I am so glad people attack the president even over a speech he gave at a very sad event. What people missed is at the end of the day the same fort welcomed home a group returning from a tour of duty. I wish people would stop attacking one person for condition of this country. Obama hasn’t even been in office for 1 year. Tell me what would McCain be doing except bombing Iran. This was about our service men and women and it was a very good speech. Thank you for sharing. I was able to watch the service at my desk and was very proud of the way it was handled. Then to watch the same homecoming I was able to attend when my son came home from Iraq. It put things into perspective. This was about the soldiers and their families not YOUR agenda..

I don’t see anyone attacking his speech.

    What are you talking about?

You are attacking the man and his administration when the post was about honoring the dead soldiers.
