Healthcare is only for those with money

Limbaugh is good at attracting attention.

From C&L:

Check out how William Shatner questions the head of the GOP about what he thinks about you and health care.

Shatner: If you have money, you’re going to get health care. If you don’t have money, it’s more difficult.

Limbaugh: If you have money you’re going to get a house on the beach. If you don’t have money you’re going to live in a bungalow somewhere — that’s — that’s…

Shatner: Right, but we’re talking about health care.

Limbaugh: What’s the difference?

Shatner: The difference is we’re talking about health care.

Limbaugh: No…

Shatner: Not a house or a bungalow.

Limbaugh: You’re assuming that there’s some morally superior aspect to health care than there is to a house or a bungalow.

Shatner: No, not moral at all. I want to keep the subject for the moment on health care.

In RushBo’s world, houses on the beach are old school, man. Why don’t you have one already? If you got no cash — too bad. Rush makes Alan Grayson’s point for him. Don’t get sick. You’ve got to be a rich conservative to make it in America. Or so Limbaugh says.

These are the same figures that Democrats use to convince you that there are '47 million American citizens in crisis'

So you don't believe that either, right?

    What's stopping you?

Pay for someone else's insurance now.

Why do you need the government to do it for you?

If you want to help your fellow man, do it. Persuade others in your church to join you in the effort to make a larger impact.

Does the government have to guide your every step?

The free market is not the cause of the credit disaster that is crippling the economy now.

    Government overregulation is.

Clinton-era regulations forced quotas on banks. They were required to write a certain number of subprime (ie the person didn't qualify) loans in specified zip codes (ie urban areas).

It was a great vote buying scheme for the Democrats ( 'see we helped increase home ownership among minorities and in the inner cities! we care about minorities and Republicans dont!' )

That's not the 'free market' failing, MH.

Mr. White I did not look at the links before I do not trust the results of polls. It is subjective to what people report and after seeing so many reports about financial things that simply where not true. I thought the census was not until next year so how are they coming up with the numbers for their report. It must be averages on a sample percentage. I don't know.

Nobody can say exactly how much stuff is going to cost 10 years from now. The republicans want the free market to handle things. Just like they did the banks. You will get an insurance company that is too big to fail. In the mean time the premiums keep going up and up and that doesn't mean the care will be there. They just like to scare people. I listen to NPR and they have some very good talk shows on this subject and don't just state talking points.

I think most people want one part to change and forget it changes other parts. Otherwise they could change coverage gradually. But look what happened to the credit card companies they are scalping people for all they can get before the restrictions kick in. The same will happen to the insurance companies.

I was just asking the question about your coverage because you are so passionate about Healthcare that you bring it up no matter the post. However you were right on topic.

This a frustrating thing to watch from the sidelines. I live in Utah and it doesn't matter what we say here. Hatch and Bennett are going to vote no and so will our representatives. They won't take phone calls or emails or mail. They state they know what is best that the people in the state don't know what they need only they do.....

I just have 3 friends that wouldn't bealive if they had not had insurance. I wouldn't mind paying more to help others get coverage.

You'd be mistaken, but I wish you were correct. :-D

My income is usually 'below the line' and I have had decent employer plans at most of my multiple jobs over the past 20 years. (I've worked in industries with lots of upheaval and have worked for 8 different companies over the past 2 decades)

Buying insurance for a family isn't cheap, and we've had to sacrifice to put the right priority in place.

Democrats use the Census Bureau figures to try to make a case for '47 million American citizens in crisis'.

But anyone who actually LOOKS at the figures can see it's not so.

Tell me MH, have you actually seen the Census Bureau info I provided before today?

Or had you just heard the solitary figure '47 million' that the Democrats cherry picked from it?

Or did you even bother to read the linked material before responding?

Actually we dont guarantee everybody food thru food stamps.

If you make too much money, you dont qualify. Of the 46.3 million uninsured, 17.7 million make more than $50,000 a year. http://www.census.gov/prod/2009pubs/p60-236.pdf ( I have purchased insurance for over 20 years for my family on less income, usually a lot less).

Do they give food stamps to non US citizens? Of the 46.3 million uninsured, 9.5 million are not US citizens. http://www.census.gov/prod/2009pubs/p60-236.pdf

Of the 46.3 million uninsured, 13.6 million make less than $25,000 http://www.census.gov/prod/2009pubs/p60-236.pdf and so probably most would ALREADY qualify for Medicaid. Why do we need to provide double coverage?

I wish that Democrats were willing to have a discussion using honest numbers of how many American citizens are truly in crisis. Then perhaps a productive approach could be voted on.

But no, they won't give up the myths and start talking reality. You can't make your political opponents appear to be demons by taking a moderate approach, and Democrats prefer to be able to say that Republicans want you to die if you get sick. It gets more votes to tell lies like that.

I wonder how reasonable people like yourself can stand to be represented by such, Dr Thompson.

Why is it that rank and file Democrats put up with having their leadership tell bald faced lies?

The thing we should be working on is some common sense reforms that make insurance affordable for the relatively small number of people (about 5-6 million, less than 3% of the population after you whittle down the 47 million number as seen above) that may truly be in crisis.

Destroying the insurance industry is a radical approach, like doing a lobotomy for a patient with a headache.

    interesting thought. Thanks your comments.

I think it depends. If you're having a heart attack right now, food is relatively meaningless without health care.

We guarantee everybody food through food stamps. We should guarantee everybody healthcare. Thanks for your comments.

That's not what it should be. To all the proponents of the health care bill you have to assess long before that you proposal should not just favor those who have the money how about those who are not lucky enough does it mean that they don't have the right to avail for the health care? It should be for the benefit of the majority and not just to the few. . Some people are opting for completely eliminating credit card debt as a response to the economy. If consumers think this is a route they want to take, they first must evaluate their habits and see where their money is going. It's simple to track money and where it goes with a little research.

If you have lots of money, you're going to get better food.

Should we guarantee everyone filet mignon?

    Why not?

Food is more essential than health care.
