Steely Dan – Deacon Blues

I could take three posts to explain the importance of Steely Dan to my life. This group was part of the background for most folks who are my age and were in college in the early ’80s. There wasn’t a party where Steely Dan didn’t fit. Everyone listened to Steely Dan. Everyone.

Thanks Errington…one of the greatest bands of all time! I got totally hooked on Steely Dan with the release of their first album:”Can’t Buy a Thrill”, and all these years later, the melodies and lyrics of practically every song (truly) they ever recorded are right on the tip of my toungue. Their sophisticated, jazz-influenced sound accompanied by often cryptic lyrics was one of the reasons to keep on living through the utterly bleak musical landscape of the Dark Ages known as “Disco.” I still listen to “The Dan” regularly…their excellent musicianship and sound still blows away 99% of the pathetic theatrics that is passed off as “talent” these days.
