Support Homeless Veterans – Hell no, we won’t

What happened to supporting the troops? I guess once you get home you aren’t a troop any more.

From TP:

Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) brought her bill — the Homeless Women Veterans and Homeless Veterans With Children Act — to the Senate floor seeking unanimous consent. Murray said the bill would “expand assistance for homeless women veterans and homeless veterans with children and would increase funding and extend federal grant programs to address the unique challenges faced by these veterans.” However, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) objected on behalf of Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) to this seemingly non-controversial issue:

McCONNELL: Madam president, reserving the right to object and I will have to object on behalf of my colleague Sen. Coburn from Oklahoma. He has concerns about this legislation, particularly as he indicates in a letter that I’ll ask the Senate to appear on the record that it be paid for up front so that the promises that makes the Veterans are in fact kept. So madam president I object.

Democrat Murray wanted to show how caring Democrats are by promising something but not providing for it.

McConnell said 'let's put together something that includes the means to make it happen, not just a promissory note'

Yeah, what a mean guy that McConnell.

Do you think McConnell will write such a bill?? Now if he had said ” I understand the problem you have brought to us. I will be happy to sit down with you and help write a bill and show the money will come out of the defense department's budget and get this done”

Do they ever ever offer to help write a bill or do they pass that responsibilty onto someone else. It is not my job.

Have you seen the package? He can put something together anytime to show that he is a compassionate soul. He can submit it in a speech on the floor of the House. He can post the bill on his web site. I have seen neither.

BTW, he could have submitted something like that during the Bush administration when he was the head man but he didn't.

    Thanks for your comments.

I'm also trying to figure out why Democrat Murray's bill targets women veterans when the overwhelming majority (92%) of veterans are men. It sounds more like grandstanding instead of an honest attempt to address a problem.
