Jan Brewer’s Opening Statement

In a debate your opening statement should set up a framework. This is what you have done and this is why you should get re-elected. You can use your opening statement to attack your opponent. What you NEVER want to do is stare down at your notes like you don’t know what’s going on. You have had days to prepare your opening statement. There is no excuse for …

Wow. That was something. If you wanted everyone to think that you aren’t prepared and that they shouldn’t trust you, this was perfect.

Great criticism of style over substance.

If someone isnt a polished speaker, they shouldn't be trusted, right?

That's what makes Obama such a great President. It's not what he says (that's not really important) , it's the way he says it.

Slick. Confident. That's what we want.

Don't bother us with being right on the issues, we want glitz.

To me is shows that she is not self confident about herself. Especially when she is running for office. Nerves are one thing but this is her platform and she should be sure of herself not to be reading notes.

  • Joe White

    Really?

And it's ok for Obama to use a teleprompter when speaking to elementary school kids? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVpOH4MGPBg

I have to say that wouldn't be cool. But he is picked apart by everything and his talks last longer than minute. So any slipup would be attacked by Fox News and blown out of proportion. Hers was for a debate and much more visable. Maybe Obama just wanted the kids to know that reading is important too….

It is great they way to excuse being unprepared. You don't have to be a polished speaker to practice a speech. If you are unprepared and can't take the time to figure out what you want to say then you aren't going to take the time to figure out the right course for your state.

I want substance and she delivered nothing.

Now, you are being contrary. She (Brewer) could have used cue cards. Obama gives over 200 speeches a year. It would be great if he could memorize every word for every speech. Yes, he should be precise in what he says because he isn't just delivering a speech for kids both you and I and millions of Americans are listening to what our president is saying.

The substance was terrible too. Living in AZ, I can tell you first hand what a terrible governor she is. I miss our old governor.

    Dear Joes:

Wow. Whichever one of you guys came up with this one should take a week or so off. Maybe practice up by flaming the Washington Post.

It really wasn't wise to try to highlight the “substance” of that opening. Did you comment before the hive came up with the collective response? Sometimes, you should let a criticism of one of your right-wing heroes go. That way you could claim to be “fair and balanced.”

  • Joe White

Listen, if the guy can't speak to a group of kids without a teleprompter………

Never mind. You worship the ground he walks on and nothing will ever cause you to doubt him for a moment.

At least Christina Romer let us in on a bit of the truth when she admitted recently that the administration didn't have a clue.

“……giving what was billed as her “valedictory” before she returns to teach at Berkeley, and she used the swan song to establish four points, each more unnerving than the last:

She had no idea how bad the economic collapse would be. She still doesn't understand exactly why it was so bad. The response to the collapse was inadequate. And she doesn't have much of an idea about how to fix things…….” from http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/09/01/AR2010090106148.html
