Friday Morning Grab Bag

  • The Department of Justice has gone back to the US District Court to ask for a stay in the court’s injunction preventing embryonic stem cell research.
  • Although the mainstream press has tried to paint Glenn Beck as a changed man, I’m not sure that I saw much change. I know that he is not responsible for the actions of every single individual at his rallies but there was plenty of ugliness at his rally. Oh, by the way, was Glenn Beck’s rally much like a 12 step program?
  • I’m not sure what it says about your preparation when you freeze during your opening statement. Governor Jan Brewer did just that. The governor has gone to greater and greater lengths to explain why she has to take such a harsh stance against illegal immigration. Back in July she stated that, “our law enforcement agencies have found bodies in the desert, either buried or just lying out there, that have been beheaded.” No news or law enforcement agency is able to verify this shocking claim. Reporters ask her about this discrepancy (below)

  • While we are struggling through the worst recession since the Great Depression, it appears that many CEOs, especially those who’ve laid off the most workers, are doing just fine.
  • We know that tax cuts for the rich work… this is just intuitive. We don’t need any data. We know this just like we know breathing is good and not breathing is bad. At least that’s what Representative Mike Pence would have us believe.
  • House Democrats are saying no to Social Security cuts.
  • Federal income taxes on the middle class are at historically low levels. I wonder if McCain were in office if we would hear all of this about tax cuts.
  • I know that the Dallas Cowboys beat the Miami Dolphins in the final preseason game of the yea. I’m not sure that the Dallas Cowboys have given us, the fans, much to look forward to. Our offensive line has been simply awful. As far as I know, it is really hard to pass or run without an effective offensive line. I will not pretend to know what’s wrong. I will only say that, in the simplest of terms, the offensive line is about blocking someone on the defensive line for a couple of seconds. We don’t seem to be able to do this. (By the way, do you have your fantasy football team lined up?)

The Mormons in Utah who stand behind Beck are being really quiet not sure what to make of his rally.

The bodies buried in the desert I believe were in Mexico.

So, I read this and I go to the link to see what ugly incidents from the rally are documented. And I look………..

The ugliness that I find is the OP's assertion that rally attendees were comprised of “hundreds of thousands of terrified, confused and completely ignorant white folks”

His race baiting continues “Beck needs to step back and stop re-appropriating the civil rights movement for his dark aims which is an America where white is alright, brown betta get outta town and black gets to sit in the back.”

Nice job, Doc. Point us to a racist lefty to try to prove how 'ugly' the political right is.

    wow it's begun.

    Sooner than I thought.

Headline on Yahoo News “Ad touting Hillary Clinton for president…”

Ted Kennedy pummeled Jimmy Carter all the way thru June 1980 to try to capture the Democratic nomination and deny Carter (another) awful term as president.

Ted didn't succeed as he tried to tell Democrats the obvious “This guy is a disaster and won't win in November.”

The Dems didn't listen then, and I've got a feeling they won't listen in 2012 either.

They just don't want to hear it. “You've made a mistake” is something Democrats never seem to tell themselves.

What do you think John Mc Cain would have done this last 18 months? Just wondering how you think things would be better under his presidency. Since it was between the two in the end. What do you think McCain would have done for the economy. He doesn't seem to have many answers and since that was the choice. Where do you think the country would be?

As are government workers, as noted earlier http://www.usatoday.com/news/washington/2009-12-10-federal-pay-salaries_N.htm but ignored by Dr Thompson because it's a lot easier to bash CEO than union members.

How does what they do for the government compare to the private sector? You don't know because they don't tell you what the jobs are. The NSA has the highest paid people of any government office. I vote to cut them down how about you? Why is it when Obama wants to shut down an expensive program like the Constellation program he is not allowed to. I am sure alot of high paying jobs are in the science programs. Why is it not allowed. When he wanted to save billions of dollars to cut out the F-22's that nobody wanted he was supported. So you bash the president for spending government money but don't give him credit when he cuts programs.

People need to volunteer more. Our county government has alot of volunteers to help with the programs it runs. I agree more people need to not think of themselves and expect pay for everything they do. Unfortunately the kids all have their hands out and ask what is in it for me. I loved Obama's program he wanted to get started. The volunteer for education program.

  • Joe White

The only place Obama has been willing to cut spending is in defense, same as Carter, same as Clinton.

Defense is one of the few constitutionally mandated federal powers.

Democrats dont want to do what the constitution tells them to do, and they do want to put the federal government on every unconstitutional task.

Getting people to volunteer is not the job of the federal government. And calling people 'volunteers' when they are paid is a joke.

In addition, the Democratic attempt to force 'volunteering' is a sick joke, and it is supported by leaders in the Democratic party.

    Forced labor is not 'volunteering'.

  • margaret

Joe I don't understand where you get volunteering a forced program. It was designed to get people involved in helping others while looking for a job instead of just sitting around complaining. Plus you would be offered some education as a bonus. It is like the Peace Corps. Which is a very good program. The benefits of volunteering and helping others and learning along the way is benefical by everybody.

I am an optimist and you for sure are not. Which means nothing will make you happy and I feel sorry for you.

  • Joe White

It's not volunteering if the 'volunteers' get paid, either with cash or scholarships. Can we agree on that?

Charlie Rangel had a similar bill that REQUIRED participation in his 'volunteer' program. That's forced labor.

Fortunately his crooked ways have temporarily cost him his chairmanship and he hasnt had the time or the influence to get his program on the docket. But when he regains the chairmanship (the Democrats will turn a blind eye and restore him after the election) then trust me, he will be pushing his slavery program again.
