We Need to Recognize

Sometimes it’s hard to recognize some of the things that are happening around us. Sometimes it is easy. Big business has been shipping jobs overseas for the last 30 years. For some reason, there are a number of Americans who believe that giving big business more money will somehow make them keep jobs here in the US. Whirlpool is the latest example of a company that has been slowly but steadily dismantling plants and reassembling them in Mexico.

One comment they made was fair and truthfull , they said Samsung and LG were dumping low cost appliances on our market . So why did we need a free trade agreement with South Korea seems like they already had it .

One of our big customer’s was sending their metal fabrication jobs to Mexico for the cheaper labor. However, we would get the work back to fix all the mistakes. After trying to work with the facotries in Mexico they have given up. The factories couldn’t get qualified people and was costing them more in time delays to their customers than it was worth. So the work is coming back to us. Hopefully this will be the same in some of the other manufacturers,. But they sell in huge quantities so maybe they won’t care.

Our politicians don’t seem to understand that these “free-trade deals” allow American companies to open factories in third world countries and then ship their finished products back into the United States with little or no consequences. Then again, maybe the politicians do know the results of their actions and they simply don’t care that the American workers are taking it on the chin.
